Using a Dehumidifier to Tackle Humidity

Everyone wants that gorgeous summer glow on their skin. One that makes you look fresh, hydrated, and healthy. But there’s a limit to how much your skin can glow before you start looking like you’ve just done a heavy workout at the gym. High humidity levels can cause you to be extra sweaty in summer, but besides that, it also comes with a host of other problems for your home and health.

Here are 5 fabulous ways a dehumidifier can help you tackle high humidity this summer:

1. It keeps allergies in check

Using a dehumidifier in your home can keep the relative humidity at an ideal level, which can prevent mould, mildew, and dust mites from multiplying. Humid conditions above 55% may cause mould growth, both in and outside of your home. This can trigger an allergic reaction or lead to an asthma attack.

You can’t control the general humidity in your area, but fortunately you can control what happens in your home, and that’s where a dehumidifier can help you. Receiving the Allergy Foundation of South Africa’s seal of approval, our dehumidifiers help to reduce the moisture content of the air, leading to lower levels of allergens.

If you’re allergic to pollen, the good news is that during days of high humidity, pollen levels are actually low. The moisture-laden air weighs down pollen, keeping it on the ground.

2. It creates a comfortable atmosphere

As high humidity levels can make your house feel stuffy and uncomfortable, using a dehumidifier can help to cool down your home. When temperatures and humidity levels are high, your body can’t regulate its temperature effectively. High humidity levels mean the air is already saturated with water, so the sweat on your skin doesn’t evaporate as it would in drier conditions. This results in the air feeling warmer than the actual temperature. As a dehumidifier reduces the moisture content, your body is once again able to regulate its temperature better and thus cool down.

Our energy efficient dehumidifiers operate at low audio levels making them perfect to use throughout the day or night.

3. It guards against moisture damage

A dehumidifier can help to reduce the amount of moisture in your home, protecting your furniture, furnishings, wallpaper, paintwork, floors and brickwork from being damaged. A humidity level of over 68% can encourage mould and mildew to grow, which can affect the structural integrity of your house. It can cause the wood in your home to warp and deteriorate. Metal items may rust quicker than usual, and it can even lead to electronic items malfunctioning due to condensation. This is all made worse if you have a well-sealed home that has decreased air circulation. Trapping the moisture inside.

4. It clears the air

High humidity levels can lead to your home smelling musty and the air feeling moist and clammy. You may also notice condensation forming on your windows. A dehumidifier can assist in eliminating that musty smell caused by mildew and reducing condensation.

Your clothes might also smell damp, even if you’re using beautifully fragrant detergents and fabric softeners. Humid air carries a musty odour that will cling to your garments. A portable dehumidifier for cupboards, drawers, safes, and gym bags would also help to keep at bay any musty odours from your clothing.

5. It can help with laundry

You can use a dehumidifier to assist in drying your clothing indoors. The dehumidifier will work by removing moisture from the air and creating a drier environment so that your clothing is able to dry out effectively. It may take a little bit longer than a tumble dryer, but it is more cost-efficient.
