You’ve seen them and you can see how one could come in very handy in your home. You see how your time frees up by having diverted some of your daily chores to a robot and now you’ve decided that you not only want one, but NEED one.

But what are the things that you need to consider when deciding on which robot vacuum cleaner to purchase?

Here are a few:

1. Room Size

Think about the space you want to use it in. Larger homes will require a robot with a larger tank so you don’t have to empty after only vacuuming half the house.

2. Type of surface

Do you have hard floors such as tiles, wood or vinyl floors? Or do you have carpeted floors? This will determine the type of vacuum cleaner you would need as not all robot vacuums are suitable for all types of floors.

3. Battery Life

Larger homes and spaces will also require appropriate battery life. Most vacuums can clean continuously for at least an hour until they must return to their charging dock for a recharge. Most robotic vacuums have an auto docking function, however, there are some less expensive models that do not have this. This function comes in handy when you have a larger home, when you are not at home when the unit needs a recharge and saves you from having to search for the unit to place it on charge.

4. Noise Level

When do you plan on letting your robotic vacuum clean? If it’s in the middle of the day, when no one is home, noise level isn’t really a concern. Keep in mind, some devices will require more supervision than others, so some may need to be run in the morning or evening when someone is home. If that’s the case, make sure you are comfortable with the level of noise the unit produces. If you plan to let it clean at night, choose the quietest device you can find.

5. Scheduling

Not all devices are equal when it comes to scheduling cleaning sessions. If automatically scheduled vacuuming is important to you, choose a device that allows you to pick the time and/or day that the robot will clean. Some devices will only allow you to pick a time of day and the robot will then clean at that same time each day. Other units allow for a bit more flexibility through custom scheduling.
