Saving money on household bills is something that pretty much everyone is looking to do, and there are plenty of ways you can start getting those costs down. When it comes to your laundry routine it’s all about thinking smart and changing the way in which you approach this chore. So, we’re going to give you some easy-to-follow tips that’ll help you make your laundry routine less expensive.

Pre-treat before washing

This is a particularly good idea with stained clothes. The earlier and better you pre-treat clothes before washing the less likely you’ll need to repeat the process or wash on super-hot, super-long cycles. Pre-treating is also one of the most effective ways of getting out stubborn stains, so when it comes to knowing how to remove tomato sauce from clothes, this is a great starting point.

Smart drying

If you can avoid having to use the tumble dryer every time you put on some laundry, the savings will soon start to clock up. If it is not possible for your to hang your wet clothes outside to dry, then  dehumidifier will come in handy. Running a dehumidifier where your laundry is drying will help dry your laundry quickly and efficiently while using very little energy. It will also prevent condensation and mould-growth. Running a small fan adjacent to the dehumidifier can speed up the drying process. This will not only save you money on your electricity bill, but also protect your clothes in the long run as a tumble dryer can damage your clothes over time.

Washing on a lower temperature

Being smart with the way you use your washing machine can see savings add up over time. The hotter the wash, the harder the machine has to work, and that means using more energy. We’ve already mentioned pre-treating to help keep costs down (and as part of learning how to remove tomato sauce from clothes), and choosing to wash clothes on a lower setting will also help. A lot of machines have eco settings as well, specifically designed to save energy, so that can work really well too. Get to know your machine and the functions it offers and that way you can be smart about how you keep your laundry costs down.

Wash a full load

Finally, and perhaps the most important point, try to wash full loads whenever you can. If something can wait to be washed then it’s best to leave it until you have enough to fill your machine. Sometimes we need to wash clothes immediately, but if you can wait you’re going to be doing fewer washes per week, month and year, and that will save you plenty of cash in the long run.

That’s four top tips that’ll help keep your laundry costs down. Not only will you be saving money, you’ll be doing your bit for the environment too!
